This bird is called an “oyster grabber” so I’m told. He looked like he was going for small fish or shrimp. But in any case, they make for good photography. The have bright red bills that stand out like a sour thumb.
We were riding up the river on a boat, and I borrowed a 100-400mm lens. I must say, I have camera lust now because of it. Here’s a few shots of birds I spotted fishing the river.

I went hiking around in the Chilean Andes… it looked a lot like like the American Southwest in some respects. There were cactuses aplenty.
