Made in His Image, Made in Our Image

Artificial intelligence has crossed a threshold that once belonged to science fiction. Machines now write, speak, reason, create, persuade, and imitate human thought with unsettling fluency. But the question of artificial intelligence quickly becomes a question about us as image bearers of God—the relationship between the doctrine of the imago Dei and the strange new world of artificial minds. Drawing from Christian theology, philosophy of mind, animal cognition, and the problem of other minds, this exploration treats AI as a mirror, and in that mirror, humanity does not only see the machine. It sees itself—the questions of reason and creativity, limits and longings, borrowed glory, and many of the unfinished questions of what it means to be human.
